Localization and Currency Settings
Localization tells Crafted Call where your organization operates. It sets the currency your calls are priced in, the timezone your deadlines resolve in, the units artists enter dimensions in, and the paper size your printed documents use. Set it before you publish your first call, because several of these choices are awkward to change later.
Where to find it
Go to Settings > Organization, stay on the Basic Info section, and scroll to Localization. The card is titled Localization and its subtitle reads "Units, regional preferences, and base currency for every call."
The six fields
Country. The country your organization operates from. This is the field everything else keys off. It also decides which tax profile and which address wording you get.
Locale. The language and region tag used to format dates, times, and numbers, for example en-AU or en-NZ.
Timezone. The timezone your organization runs on. Start typing and the field suggests matching timezones.
Paper size. A4 or Letter. This drives printed output such as labels and catalogs.
Measurement units. Imperial (inches) or Metric (centimeters). This controls whether artists enter artwork dimensions in inches or centimeters and how those dimensions are displayed everywhere in the app.
Base currency. The default currency for every new call. Eight are available: AED, AUD, CAD, CHF, EUR, GBP, NZD and USD.
Choose your settings and click Save localization.
Choosing a country fills in the rest
When you pick a country, Crafted Call fills in the locale, timezone, paper size, measurement units and base currency that usually go with it. Anything you have already typed by hand is left alone, so your own choices are never overwritten by a later country change.
| Country | Locale | Currency | Units | Paper | Timezone |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Australia | en-AU | AUD | Metric | A4 | You choose |
| Canada | en-CA | CAD | Metric | Letter | America/Toronto |
| New Zealand | en-NZ | NZD | Metric | A4 | Pacific/Auckland |
| United Arab Emirates | en-AE | AED | Metric | A4 | Asia/Dubai |
| United Kingdom | en-GB | GBP | Metric | A4 | Europe/London |
| United States | en-US | USD | Imperial | Letter | America/New_York |
Every one of these is a starting point you can override.
Australia has no default timezone
Australia spans several timezones, so Crafted Call does not guess one for you. Choosing Australia fills in the locale, currency, units and paper size but leaves the timezone blank, and you have to pick it. Do that before you publish a call with a deadline.
Deadlines resolve in your timezone
When you type a submission deadline into the call builder, Crafted Call reads that wall-clock time in your organization's timezone, and the deadline inputs show which timezone that is right next to them. A deadline of 11:59 PM means 11:59 PM where you are, not where the person editing the call happens to be sitting.
If your organization has no timezone saved, deadlines fall back to the timezone of the device the admin is using. Two admins in different places would then be authoring different deadlines from the same typed time, which is the reason to set it.
Changing your base currency
Changing the base currency affects new calls only.
- Existing calls keep the currency they were created with.
- Completed payments, receipts, and financial records are never re-stated in the new currency.
- New calls default to the new currency.
If your organization already has calls, saving a currency change asks you to confirm first. The confirmation names how many existing calls you have and repeats that they will not change.
A single call can run in a currency other than your base currency when you turn on the currency override for that call. Without that override, a call whose currency does not match your base currency is refused.
Why an incomplete profile can block money
Some countries have tax rules Crafted Call applies to your money flows. In those countries, localization is not optional decoration. If any of the six fields is missing or unconfirmed, creating a priced call is refused with a message pointing you back to this section, and checkout can be refused until the country's tax profile is complete.
Australia is one of those countries. See Australian GST and Your ABN.
Your own bill is separate
Your base currency is what your artists and buyers pay you in. Your subscription and the per-application platform charge from Crafted Call are quoted and charged in United States dollars regardless. See Where Crafted Call Works.
