Coupon Codes & Discounts
Drive engagement and increase submissions with customizable coupon codes. Create percentage discounts, fixed amounts, and usage limits tailored to your events.
Creating Coupons
To create a new coupon:
Go to Commerce > Coupons
Click Create Coupon
Enter coupon details:
Code : Short, memorable (e.g., EARLYBIRD25, MEMBER50)
Type : Percentage or Fixed Amount
Value : Discount percentage (e.g., 25%) or dollar amount (e.g., $10)
Set validity:
Active From : When the coupon becomes usable
Expires : When it stops working (optional)
Configure scope (see next section)
Set usage limits (see Usage Limits)
Click Create
The coupon is immediately live and ready for use.
Discount Types
Percentage Discounts
Perfect for proportional savings that feel generous to users.
Example: EARLYBIRD25 = 25% off submission fees
Use when: You want the discount to scale with price
Artist see: "25% off your entry fee"
Fixed Amount Discounts
Best for targeted discounts on specific price points.
Example: SAVE10 = $10 off any submission
Use when: You want to offer a consistent savings amount
Artist sees: "$10 off your entry fee"
Tip: Percentage discounts feel larger for high-value items; fixed amounts feel larger for low-value items. Choose strategically.
Usage Limits
Control how often coupons can be redeemed to manage costs and prevent abuse.
Global limit:
Usage cap : Maximum times the coupon can be used across all users (e.g., 100 total uses)
Great for limited-time promotions
Per-user limit:
Max uses per user : How many times one person can redeem it (e.g., 1)
Prevents bulk gaming
Useful for promotional codes
Active From / Expires : Automatic enable/disable on dates
Perfect for time-limited campaigns
Code: EARLYBIRD30
Type: 30% Percentage
Global Limit: 50 uses (limit cost)
Per-User Limit: 1 (one discount per artist)
Expires: 2026-03-31 (promotion ends)
Coupon Scope Choose where the coupon applies—specific calls, exhibitions, or globally.
In coupon creation, choose Scope
Select:
All calls & exhibitions : Works everywhere
Specific call : Only for submissions to that call
Specific exhibition : Only for purchases in that exhibition
Specific event : Only for tickets/memberships to that event
Using specific scope helps you:
Run targeted campaigns (e.g., early bird for a specific call)
Reward loyal members with exhibition-only codes
Test different discount values by call
Real-World Scenarios
Code: EARLYBIRD20
Scope: Specific call
Expires: 2 weeks before deadline
Use: "Submit early and save 20%"
Code: MEMBER2026
Scope: All exhibitions
Per-user limit: Unlimited
Use: Exclusive member discount year-round
Code: NEWSLETTER50
Scope: Specific event
Global limit: 100 uses
Use: "Newsletter subscriber exclusive"
Coupon Analytics Track coupon performance in Analytics > Coupon Reports :
Redemptions : How many times used (vs. limit)

Managing Coupons
Pause or Deactivate Stop a coupon from being used without deleting it:
Go to Commerce > Coupons
Find the coupon and click Pause
Artists can no longer redeem it
You keep the analytics
Edit an Active Coupon Limited changes are allowed to active coupons (to avoid confusion):
Change expiration date (extend or shorten)
Adjust global usage limit (can only increase)
Add internal notes
You cannot change the discount value or code. Create a new coupon instead.
Delete a Coupon Permanently remove unused coupons:
Click the coupon
Click Delete
Confirm (this cannot be undone)
Only delete if nobody has used it yet.
Best Practices
Keep codes simple : EARLY25 beats EARLYBIRD2026APR
Set realistic limits : Too restrictive and they feel exclusive; too generous and you lose margin
Promote clearly : Make sure artists know the code exists (email, social, website)
Track campaigns : Use unique codes per channel (EMAIL50, SOCIAL50) to measure channel ROI
Avoid overlap : Check expiration dates so competing coupons don't run simultaneously
Communicate value : "25% off" feels better than "25% discount off the $50 submission fee"
Troubleshooting
Check if it's active (not paused or expired)
Verify the scope includes the artist's submission/event
Confirm usage limits haven't been exceeded
Check browser cache (clear and refresh)
Artist used it multiple times but limit was 1?
Global limit may have been higher than per-user limit
Review the coupon configuration
Manually adjust or issue a refund if needed
Want to extend an expiring coupon?
Open the coupon
Click Edit
Change the expiration date
Save
How do I see who used a coupon?
Go to Analytics > Coupon Reports
Select the coupon
View the redeemed by list with artist names and dates
